I: Coup de Foudre

from Sonata for Violin and Piano by Thomas Little

/

about

Literally "stroke of lightning," the title refers to the dissonance of the climactic moment—a pivotal point in not just the movement, but the entire piece. The movement is constructed out of a series of scales and tones that emerged out of the opening gesture. Every composition decision was made to generate material as well as create ever more elaborate sets of rules that govern how that material was to be used.
