II: Cri de Cœur

from Sonata for Violin and Piano by Thomas Little

Literally "cry of the heart," this movement takes the scales from the first movement and elaborates them in the violin, while the piano comes to grips with its muted notes. The titular cries are in the violin's quarter-tone pitch bending on the way down from its highest note, which trigger a muted sonority in the piano.
